Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the body’s deep veins. Deep vein clots normally occur in the thigh or lower leg. There is even the potential for DVT to develop into a more serious disease — such as is the case when a DVT breaks loose and leads to a pulmonary ambolism in the lung. There are 200,000 – 3 million cases of DVT in U.S. each year. Symptoms of DVT include:

  • Swelling or pain in the affected area
  • Skin redness
  • Warmth and tenderness over the vein

Common causes of DVT include:

  • Medical conditions relating to how your body clots
  • Long periods without movement
  • Being bed-ridden post-surgery or after an accident

Some experts suggest elevating the legs in order to help treat DVT. The BRODA Elite Tilt Recliner 785 and Midline chairs allow for maximum adjustability, making it easy for users to elevate their legs and relieve pain. BRODA’s Pedal chair also supports mild leg exercise for those who can self propel.
